Doreen Hutchings
Ms. Hutchings joined the Northwestern College faculty in 1999 and is director of the Opera Theatre program, and she teaches voice lessons, diction, opera workshop, and vocal literature. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from SUNY Fredonia, NY, a Master of Music degree from West Virginia University and did extensive doctoral study in vocal performance and opera direction at the University of Minnesota. Ms. Hutchings spent several summers at Chautauqua Institute as a voice and opera scholarship recipient. A winner of the southeastern Metropolitan Opera Auditions, Ms. Hutchings has performed with the Virginia Opera Association, Chautauqua Opera, Symphony Orchestra & Festival Choir, St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra, and Buffalo Symphony Orchestra among others. Her directing credits include many full productions and scenes programs from operatic and musical theater repertoire. Ms. Hutchings also maintains an active private voice studio. Her students have received prestigious awards in competitions such as Schubert Club, Minnesota State High School League, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Ms. Hutchings is also the Director of Music and Artistic Ministries at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Circle Pines, MN.
