The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures prepares students to understand and communicate with speakers of Chinese and Spanish. The department offers:

  • Beginning and intermediate level courses in Chinese and Spanish
  • Upper division courses leading to a Spanish minor
  • A Spanish major
Information about transfer credits and placement:
  • The department does not offer a placement examination. Students who score 63 or higher on the Spanish CLEP exam receive credit for SPA1001, 1002, 2101, and 2102.
  • Students who expect to transfer credits from fourth semester college Spanish taken in high school should apply those credits to SPA2101 and enroll in SPA2102 spring semester of the freshman year.
