Orchestra Meet the Conductor
 
 
 

Director of Orchestra and String Studies at Northwestern College since 2003, David Kozamchak remains active as a violinist, violist, and orchestral conductor. In addition to conducting the Northwestern College Orchestra he teaches violin and viola, string education courses, symphonic and instrumental literature, coaches chamber ensembles, and has conducted the fall musical. He also maintains a private studio through Northwestern’s Academy of Music program and conducts the Academy Orchestra. He earned his Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Missouri-Columbia and his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Texas Tech University.

Kozamchak’s violin teachers have included Dr. Virginia Kellogg and Dr. James Barber. He has studied conducting with Edward Dolbashian at the University of Missouri-Columbia and also with Michael Jinbo at the Pierre Monteux School. In February of 2009 the Northwestern College Orchestra was invited to perform at the MMEA Midwinter In-Service Clinic (MMEA Convention) as a featured performing ensemble. Kozamchak made his international conducting debut in May of 2007 when he conducted the Northwestern College Orchestra in Padua, Italy as part of the XVII International Music Meeting as well as in a performance in Haydn Hall in Vienna. In the fall of 2006 Kozamchak guest conducted the Saint Paul Civic Symphony. Before moving to Minnesota, he served as the assistant conductor for the Columbia (Missouri) Civic Orchestra during the 2002-2003 season. He was a member of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and numerous other orchestras in the West Texas area. For six years, he was the full-time orchestra director at Trinity Church in Lubbock and a sought-after music director and conductor for musicals. As a chamber musician, he was the founder, manager, and first violinist of Opus IV String Quartet.

Kozamchak is a member of the Conductors Guild, the College Orchestra Directors Association, League of American Orchestras, American String Teachers Association, the Minnesota String and Orchestra Teachers Association, and the Music Educators National Conference.
