Meet the Conductor
Monte Mumford, holds an international reputation as a guest conductor, clinician, adjudicator and lecturer, contributing regularly to the field of music educaiton through conference papers, publicationand guest conducting. He is highly regarded for the experience, dedication, expertise and passion he projects as a music educator. In 2000, Mr. Mumford was awarded a citation of excellence by the Australian Band and Orchestra Association for his outstanding contributions to music education through community music-making.
Mr. Mumford maintains an active profile as a freelance trombonist, giving regular recitals. He has performed as lead trombone with the Chrysler corporation Big Band, the Tasmanian Festival Show Band, the Tasmanian Channel 9 Show Band, and with many popular international artists. His professional instrumental/vocal conducting and musical direction activities include live radio and television performances, national broadcasts, Broadway musicals, and commercial recording sessions, including tape and ocmpact disc releases.
Mr. Mumford earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Performance and Music Educaiton from Seattle Pacific University and his Master of Music degree in Performance Studies from the University of Tasmania, Hobart. He is currently associate professor of music, director of bands, and teaches advanced conducting at Northwestern.
