No. 2 Bethel Hands 3-0 Loss to 2006 Champions
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Nov. 30, 2007) – Second-seeded Bethel College used every one of their team’s tactics to beat #6 Cedarville University in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Volleyball Tournament on Friday. The Pilots from Bethel had three of their players record double-digit kills to go with 13 team blocks to beat the reigning champions 3-0 (30-24, 30-17, 30-24).

Erica Bruxvoort was strong once again for Bethel, leading her team with 14 kills on 35 attempts. Bruxvoort was joined by Stephanie Harwood and Christie Odreman, who contributed 11 and 10 kills to the Pilots’ offensive attack.

Ashley Pagel was superb at her setter position, tallying 33 assists in the contest.

Shifting to defense wasn’t a problem for Bethel, as they held a 13-2 blocking advantage in the match. Odreman had her hands in six of BC’s total blocks.

Sarah Zeltman, who became Cedarville’s all-time leader in career kills on Thursday, was the Yellow Jackets’ only player in double digits with 15 kills. Libby Short had 20 digs for CU, but Bethel was too tough to overcome.

With the win, Bethel advances to Saturday’s semifinal round of the tournament with pairings yet to be decided.

Both teams will play again at 6 p.m. on Friday, as Bethel will face off against #7 Palm Beach Atlantic University, while Cedarville will look for a win versus #3 The Master’s College.
