The student to faculty ratio is 14:1.

Financial Aid

A financial aid package at Northwestern may include scholarships, grants, loans, discounts, and work-study.

97% of Northwestern students receive some type of financial aid.

For new freshmen (2008-09):
Average gift amount.................$10,764
Average loan package...............$5,928
Average work-study...................$2,400

The earliest a student may apply for financial aid is January of the year that the student begins college. Because the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) asks for information from the prior year's IRS form 1040, we strongly recommend the completion of the 1040 before filling out the FAFSA form.

Priority is given to students who apply before May 1.

The Northwestern College Title IV code for the FAFSA is 002371.

Feel free to contact the Financial Aid office at 866-853-2455 for more information or take a look at our financial aid brochure.

Quick Questions

Does everyone have to live on campus?
All students under the age of 21 on the first day of classes (August 26, 2009) are required to live on campus for the entire 2009-10 academic year, unless they live with one or both parents, are married, or are part-time students (under 12 credits).

Am I allowed to bring a car to Northwestern?
Freshmen (students with less than 30 earned college credits) living in College housing are not permitted to have a vehicle on-campus. Appeals are available, but are only accepted for extreme circumstances.

Are standardized tests required for admission?
Yes. Either the ACT or the SAT test, unless transferring into Northwestern with 12 or more CORE College credits and at least a 2.25 GPA. In order to be considered for admission, we look for at least an 18 on the ACT and 860 on the SAT, however, the average NWC student scored 24.5 on the ACT and 1100 on the SAT.

Is tutoring available?
Yes. Tutoring is available for students, at no cost, through the ALPHA Center on campus. The ALPHA Center organizes tutoring, study groups, help in editing papers and is a place where arrangements can be made if you have a special testing need.

How long does it take to find out about an admissions decision?
Once we receive all the required information, it usually takes two to three weeks.

Is it worth my applying for financial aid through scholarship search organizations?
Yes. However we recommend that you not pay for any scholarship search information. There are many free services available on the web, through a public library, and your high school Guidance office.

Can a person be involved in both music and athletics?
Yes it is possible, depending on the sport and the music group. It is, however, difficult to balance too many things. You will need to communicate with your coaches and music director.

My family has moved and changed churches. Who should I get to fill out my Pastor's Reference form?
Someone, other than a parent, who knows you spiritually: youth pastor, Sunday school teacher, FCA leader, etc.

If you have any more questions feel free to contact the admissions office at 651-631-5110.
