Group Piano Lessons
What are group piano lessons?
Group lessons are a 1 hour class in which 5-10 students of similar age and skill level learn together to play the piano. It is similar to the Suzuki Method in that the teaching is done in a group setting, but differs from Suzuki in that the students learn to read music right away. The students each play on their own digital piano with weighted keys and use headphones so that the instructor can listen and communicate to the student. The instructor has the ability at the studio to listen to each student individually or combine 2 to 5 students so they can play songs together.
Advantages to 1 Hour Group Piano Lessons
• Students are taught how to practice, having time to work on what they learn at the lesson.
• The hour gives the instructor more time to cover not only the students pieces, but also music theory, improvisation, music history, note drills, scales, chords and ear training.
• Students are motivated by each other and enjoy lessons because of the group setting. They feel the comradery of their peers much like kids in band and orchestra at school experience.
• Students are able to play duet and group pieces with other students, helping to develop rhythm and ensemble skills
