What are you passionate about: I am passionate about students coming together to experience Christ-centered community where they grow and learn more about themselves and the God who created them. I am also passionate about the family unit as I see how important it is for a child’s development to have an environment where they can be loved, cared for, encouraged, and empowered to pursue their dreams.
What do you enjoy about NW students: I love that Northwestern students are serious about their own spiritual walks with the Lord, and they are not afraid to dialogue about their faith. I believe such dialogues produce great fruit and a growing maturity in a community of believers. I am proud that Northwestern students approach their faith in this way.
What's the best thing about your job: The best part of my job is that I have the privilege of coming along side college students during many different seasons of their lives. In this setting I am continually reminded of how great it is to be a college student, and how blessed we are to be living in such close proximity to each other as it promotes a unique atmosphere of community. I love that I am able to live in such an environment again. You never know, anything can happen!
Favorite memory from your college days: My favorite memories from college are the numerous hunting trips my guy friends and I took to North Dakota. I will never forget the fun times we had out there and the gift of those friendships. An equally favorite memory of my college days was meeting and getting to know my wife, Debbie.
What's your vision for Northwestern: I would love to see Northwestern continue to teach students how following Christ can be the most fun and freeing thing that has ever happened to them, and that we would not portray Christianity as a religion that is hyper-focused on following rules, but rather is about authentically and joyfully living in the freedom of Christ.
What do you love about residence life: My favorite part of residence life is the professional staff and student workers. I am blessed to be able to be working with such a great team of resident directors who are truly passionate about what they are doing. In addition, the students who are assistant resident directors and resident assistants are some of the neatest people on our campus; I have a lot of respect for them, and I have really enjoyed getting to know them.
What piece of advice would you give to incoming Northwestern students: You are about to embark on one of the best seasons of your entire life, and my piece of advice to you is to “embrace it.” Embrace all of it. Embrace the wisdom that you can gain from your professors, embrace the moments that are fun and spontaneous, embrace hardship and see it as an area to grow and mature, embrace the fact that you have fellow believers all around you, and embrace the privilege of being at NWC!
