Graduate programs in theological studies – two paths
Northwestern's graduate programs in theological studies prepare you for lay leadership or service in professional ministry as you elevate your knowledge of God's Word through exploration of rich theological truths found within the pages of the Bible.

Northwestern offers two graduate-level programs in theological studies. Talk to an admission counselor about the best option based on your plans and circumstances.
 
  
  A Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) will prepare students to increase their biblical knowledge and to bring to their profession a Christian worldview. The MATS program is a good choice for those interested in lay leadership or anticipating service in professional ministry, such as assistant ministers, worship leaders, Christian education directors, youth or campus ministry workers, or missionaries.   The Graduate Certificate in Christian Studies is granted for completing five core courses of the Master of Arts in Theological Studies. In these courses, students will develop biblical principles for spiritual formation and discipleship, learn advanced principles of biblical interpretation, study the socio-historical worlds that gave rise to the Old and New Testament, survey the history of Christianity and construct a personal theology of leadership.
