Monte Mumford, Associate Professor
(Director of Bands, Advanced Conducting Instructor)

Mr. Mumford holds an international reputation as a conductor, adjudicator, clinician and lecturer, contributing regularly to the field of music education through the presentation of conference papers, written publications, professional development offerings, master classes and performance pedagogy studies. He is highly regarded in music education circles for his experience, dedication, expertise, passion and effective, empowering teaching style. He is in demand as a music education consultant, providing teaching strategies and professional development programmes for music educators and students alike. In 2000, Mr Mumford was awarded a Citation of Excellence by the Australian Band and Orchestra’s National Association for his contributions to educational music- making. Mr Mumford continues to maintain a vigorous performance profile as a conductor and trombonist, as well as sustaining his international freelance consultancy practice.

Mr. Mumford was formerly Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Tasmania, where he directed the School’s extensive ensemble program, lectured in conducting, music history, aural studies, and music education He was also musical director of the University of Tasmania Community Music Program including the direction of University Wind Orchestra.
