Historic Preservation Plan

The Preservation of Campus Heritage Committee Committee consulted the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties as a guide to proceed with the preservation plan. The Committee recommended rehabilitation of Nazareth Hall as the appropriate treatment. Rehabilitation allows us to preserve our historic buildings and landscape while adapting them to contemporary needs.

Northwestern College’s Historic Preservation Plan:

  • describes the historic buildings and landscape
  • identifies the character-defining features of the historic buildings and landscape
  • discusses changes that have occurred over time
  • assesses current integrity and condition of the historic buildings and landscape of the campus
  • presents recommendations and strategies for preservation, renovation and stabilization of existing features while planning for effective, adaptive reuse of the historic campus
Preservation of Campus Heritage Committee Mission Statement

The Preservation of Campus Heritage Committee has been established to guide and direct Northwestern College as it develops and adopts a preservation plan regarding the historic buildings and their setting and the historic landscape on campus.

The Preservation of Campus Heritage Committee will act in an advisory capacity to the Space Management Committee, the College Cabinet, and the Board of Trustees. It will provide recommendations and critical advice regarding historic significance, preservation, rehabilitation, conservation, potential restoration, and related issues that affect the preservation of the Northwestern College campus.
