Two to three days after submitting the FAFSA, you should receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) indicating your eligibility for financial aid (if you provided a valid e-mail address).
In addition to the FAFSA, you'll need to complete Northwestern's Graduate & Continuing Education Financial Aid Application form to provide information not supplied by the FAFSA.
Graduate & Continuing Education Financial Aid Application
Your financial aid file is complete when the Graduate & Continuing Education Financial Aid Office has received the following items:
The electronic copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA. NWC must have your Social Security number on file in order to receive this electronically.
Your completed Graduate & Continuing Education Financial Aid Application.
Verification
If you are selected for verification by the federal government, a Verification Worksheet will be sent to you. Complete the verification form and return any requested documents to the GCE financial aid office. Once you have a complete file and have been accepted for admission, we will evaluate your application and determine the financial aid you are eligible to receive. You will be sent an official award packet with additional information when the awarding process is complete.
How Is Financial Aid Determined?
Financial aid is awarded on the basis of need. Your need is determined by your family's financial strength. Items such as your income, a spouse's income, number of dependents in the family, other family members in college and asset information are used to determine eligibility for federal and state programs. This ensures fair and equal treatment for everyone applying for financial aid.
