First Science Research Institute Symposium held on September 25

Sept. 17—During July, Northwestern College welcomed 18 high school students to campus for the Science Research Institute (SRI), a five-week program designed to encourage and prepare high school students for further education and careers in science and math. These same students will present their research findings at the first SRI Symposium on:

   Saturday, September 25
    9 a.m.–12 p.m.
   Totino Fine Arts Center

Presentation topics vary within the subjects of environmental biology, cell biology, physiology and statistics. High school students from Concordia University’s summer SRI program will also give presentations.

If you would like to attend the SRI Symposium, please RSVP to program coordinator, Liz Karlen via e-mail at lizkarlen@yahoo.com.

Associate Professor of Biology Joanna Klein, Ph.D., along with colleagues at Concordia University in St. Paul, started constructing the SRI program more than five years ago. SRI is now in its fourth year, offering the five-week program at both Northwestern and Concordia. Funding has been provided through several local corporations and foundations including Boston Scientific, Medtronic, H.B. Fuller and F.R. Bigelow.
