Off-Campus Study & Study Abroad Programs

Off-campus study programs enhance the educational experience of Northwestern College students by providing opportunities for students to develop intellectually, culturally, socially and spiritually.

Types of Programs

Northwestern Off-Campus Study Programs

These programs, led by Northwestern faculty and staff, are only open to NWC students. Students should contact their department to inquire about upcoming opportunities.  Some opportunities include:

  • Intercultural Studies (ICS) Internship

For this annual study-abroad internship, students from any major may apply. The group prepares on campus during Quad 1 and travels during Quad 2 to to several countries, usually in Europe, Africa or Asia.

  • Biblical Sites Study Trip

Led by Department of Biblical & Theological Studies faculty, this annual study trip (2–4 credits) is open to all majors and explores Israel or Turkey for 2–3 weeks, usually in the summer.

While attending Northwestern, students can apply to participate in programs facilitated by other colleges and universities. See the Registrar for details.

ROTC

Northwestern students have the opportunity to participate in the Air Force ROTC at the University of St. Thomas or the Army ROTC at the University of Minnesota. Military Science courses at these two institutions may be applicable to Northwestern College graduation requirements. Students accepted into these programs are eligible to apply for ROTC Scholarships.

Summer Partnership in Law

The Summer Partnership In Law (SPIL) at the William Mitchell College of Law introduces students to law and legal education through classes concurrent with William Mitchell’s regular summer entry program, which extends from mid-June to early August.

To qualify, students must have at least a "C+" average in core subjects such as English, philosophy, mathematics and science. For application information visit the William Mitchell website or call 651-290-6422.
