Early College – pre-college courses for high school students

Through the Early College pre-college program, high school students can take college courses online through Northwestern College for full credit at a discounted rate. We even loan you the books you need so there’s no extra cost to you!

Early College courses give you a convenient online format, allowing you to schedule your studies around other high school commitments. All you need is a computer, Internet access for streaming media and a desire to learn!

Early College Advantages

  • Get a head start on your college degree by earning college credit while a junior or senior in high school.
  • Courses are offered at an affordable rate ($229 per credit for 2012–13, $239 per credit for 2013-14) and allow the possibility of graduating from college ahead of schedule.
  • A student who begins Early College at the beginning of junior year could fulfill up to two years of college requirements and save thousands of dollars on future college tuition!
  • Enjoy courses taught from a biblical worldview, through a variety of media such as course guides, video lectures, textbooks and other digital tools.
  • Take courses from anywhere in the United States.

Early College Enrollment Process

  1. Download and complete the Early College Student Application.
  2. Send completed application, high school transcript and standardized test scores to Northwestern College by the deadlines listed below.
  3. Watch your mailbox within two weeks for acceptance letter.
  4. Receive letter with access instructions and account information, including e-mail, for theROCK, Northwestern’s student info portal.
  5. Log-in to theROCK.nwc.edu and register for courses.
  6. Receive book(s) and course materials a few weeks before class.

Note to Homeschooled Students

Did you know, many homeschooled students use Early College courses as their junior or senior year curriculum? You can speak to an admission counselor as early as your 10th grade year to start planning.

Early College Qualifications

  • Juniors rank in the upper third of their class
  • Seniors rank in the upper half of their class
  • High school GPA of 2.75, ACT/PLAN score of 18, SAT score of 860. For any other standardized tests, students must rank in the top 50%. Contact admissions for other accepted standardized tests.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to stay in the program
